Title: I need help with some mysterious machines I have seen on a roadtrip
Post by: synonym9 on August 13, 2014, 03:28:27 AM

Some weeks ago I was on a roadtrip and to call it a success would be the understatement of the century!

I dont want to go in depth of what I have seen there and there is still some stuff under covers or in the middle of cab-rows hidden from my eyes.

I saw stuff that I did´nt expect to be available in Europe....to pick everything I am after will be nightmare and I will need every friend that want to give me a hand.

I only made some videos as time was a problem.
I will document everything closely when the times comes, for now I made some screenshots from mysterious stuff and I hope you guys bring light in at least some of the machines I have seen there.

Since they are screenshots of a video they suck in quality, but that makes them even more mysterious

Like always I add a link to a photobucket album as posting images here is a pain in the ass, I hope you guys recognize something:

A lot of work ahead but a lot of fun too. ;D

That box on the floor with white stars in a blue stripe could be the pin Harlem Globetrotters on Tour (Bally).

This is a zaccaria Galaxia

Thanks Etienne, its hard to keep the secret until the day that I pick them, but I let you know - there are plenty of Zaccarias there.

I have bought one two weeks ago and would like to know how desired they are?

Is the Olympia only rare in Europe or in the rest of the world as well?

HAHAHA, I see Marco ....but I am that kind of breed that want to safe all games.

That certain Zac and my Hang-On are fucked up cabinets, not many people would keep them alive....I do

That Portraits seems to be a cute little game, I definitely will keep it:

Chris, there are many Pinballs and another guy that I visitet also got at least 40 pins but I am not into them as it seems to be even more complicated to restore them than the arcade games.

At the guy with the 40 I saw pins with their coindoor said 50 Groschen, thats from our old money and is less than some cents, I guessed it from being at from the 60´s.

I wanted to help the guy to get rid of the pinballs but I found out that pinballs without DMD are not desireable for the pin-heads....

I can make some pictures of the Harlem Globetrotters for you of course.

When the time comes I got the have a conference with Nilfisk as he is Austrian too and I promised him to be the first guy to dig through the stuff.

There are 4 at least with different titles, I recall at least 3 titles I have seen but dont want to go into that at the moment, nobody knows what happens and I dont want to dissappoint anyone.

What about the other stuff.....for example the Super Sniper (cant find anything on the web) and the cocktails with buttons only.....?

Honestly, I appreciate your offer Sir, but I dont think that I enlarge my hobby to pinalls, its too much to learn for the arcade-machines and maybe some redemption machines.
I dont think that I could test the pinballs there, so I would have to pick them untestet....which makes it more expensive and storage-consuming....I think I let the pins for someone else.....

I still would kill to know what the tron-shaped machine with the missile on the side is....

Gremlin Head On:    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYDrd9jE4WU

Zaccaria Dodgem:    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQBi3DAyPRA

I added some more images of very mysterious machines:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/Drachenflieger_zps88bd26c0.jpg~original

Whats Apple Time, maybe a generic cabinet:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/AppleTime_zpsee5f94e4.jpg~original

And here is the "BatMan":

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/Batman_zps615c7d6f.jpg~

Also I would like to know more about the Super Sniper (is it rather a redemption machine than an video-game?) AND the cocktail that only features buttons but for 4 players:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/WasistderTischdernurKnoumlpfehat_zps93cafe7d.jpg~original

....and of course that one:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/Wasistdenndas_zpsad097ef0.jpg~original

the most mysterious arcade machine I did ever come accross..  ??? ??? ???

Apple Time was an Austrian manufacturer, in fact they are still around producing sports betting stuff:

http://www.apple-time.at/

It's most likely generic cabs, or cheap bootlegs (the first cab I ever bought, somewhen around 1999/2000, was made by Apple Time :D )

Regarding this: http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/Wasistdenndas_zpsad097ef0.jpg~original : reminds me of japanese mahjongg cocktails, but as we're in Austria, I guess it's some kind of poker/gambling setup.

Ad Super Sniper: very likely an EM gun gallery, so a mechanical game (the term "redemption game" does not necessarily refer to a mechanical device, but rather to one where you play for tickets / prizes rather than scores. I've noticed you seem to use this term for electromechanical ("EM") games instead.)

Martin

Yes yes, I saw them and many other cabinets but we go into them when I pick the stuff up.

I want to keep away from the obvious games and rather identify the stuff I dont know, my report of the picking will be very precisly with tons of pictures in good quality. I even plan a 360° video where you can navigate in all directions while you watch the video.

I designed a helmet for such videos for a company that offers 360° videos-productions and I can borrow the equipment any time.
I guess a 360° would be very exiting.

Imagine, you can turn your view in what ever directions you want, here is an example:

http://www.360-degree-video.com/fullscreen-360video/praterturm/

It works impressive and you can watch just anything you want see, you can explore and dig through the stuff as you would be there with us.

The pinball with the stars is  a six million dollar man from Bally, not Harlem globetrotters.
I think the picture from Chris is showing a mixed up game.
Further i recognise a Williams Gorgar cabinet, as well as a Big guns head.

OK, I would say that counts.

Are those 2 mentioned pinballs something special that also attract non-pinheads?
I could imagine to take some pis if they are cheap, but there are tons of it by the operators.....I would like to know which one is a good one for someone like that is not so into pinballs.
Title: Re: I need help with some mysterious machines I have seen on a roadtrip
Post by: nilfisk on August 15, 2014, 06:27:57 AM
Both pins are rather common. The Globe Trotters (my opinion) is quite boring as well.

Gorgar is somewhat interesting as it was the first pinball to feature digitized speech. Back in the days, Williams even sent out flexi-discs (7" records) to operators so they could hear Gorgar "talk". It's a nice pin, but - typicall for older models - rather slow compared to newer DMD models.

@Synonym: Coincidentally, I do own a GORGAR and have it set up in my basement ;)

Re. BATMAN: I am quite sure that this is a generic cab with a "homemade" marquee some operator came up with. I can be wrong, but I doubt this is a dedicated cab.

I think uou are right chris, if you take the next pic in line you have a closeup of the joystick, which looks like the "pinstyle" suzo that looks like the pinstyle that zacc used.
Also if you check the font of "control base" and "fire", thats a typical font zacc used.

Wow, never heard about that Portraits ! Must be the only one know in the world :)
Flyer says it has a TI speech synthesizer but even more interesting, it seems to take a digital picture of the player when he gets the high score and displays it ! Not unique but this idea was launched with Journey as well I believe but ditched because of the "dirty" pictures people were taking ;)

http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=3531

It had a whopping 256 Kb just for that digital picture which seems a pretty high investment in RAM for just that feature at the time.

Awesome find that place !!!

The only one in the world sounds a bit overly exited....but to know more about numbers and regions would be interesting.

In what country was the company Olympia located?

Wow nice find!
I can see a dribbling there  :P

About portraits: i found one some years ago but we couldn t find a good price for both. After some months the owner destroyed it...  :'(

This game is quite rare. Has a camera inside and if you reach the top score it takes a picture of you.
It is rare because of a design problem... the game is not fluent and sometime freezes.
After the last visit in germany i think to be the most vomplete olympia collector in the world hehe. Actually i ddunno if it is a shame or i have to be proude of it
Anyhow i m interested in that portraits and please tell me if i can help you in some way.

Whats Apple Time, maybe a generic cabinet:

Apple Time? Neeed !!!

My very first cabinet was a generic Apple Time. I got it in ...1991, equipped with a galaga board   :-*

Great memories around that cabinet as you can see  :D

Do you have more pictures of it?

Sir, I have to check on it.

I have to let the video run and to make some more screenshots.

Since I have the deepest respect for your crazy Nuno-Lair´s (although I am not with you carpetwise  ;D ) I will figure out how to save the Apple Time´s for you.

There are at least 2 of and they seem to be in very good conditions. I think to remember that you are from Belgum.....or France?

I double checked it and unfortunately I cannot support more Apple Time pictures at the moment.

I will have more pictures in the next 2 weeks, if you want the Apple Times drop me a line via PM.

Ok, today I had a call with the vendor and suddenly there is another guy appeared who shows interest....so I have to reconsider my tactics for the purchase.

I had a very informative and nice meeting with Martin "Nilfisk" and I have a plan now.

Since I fear that I have to pay a lot more than I was thinking I show you the first cabinets I have hidden from you guys.

I plan to sell some cabs to raise my bourse as I need money to buy the rest.

First there is a Atari Asteroids:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/Asteroidsnaumlher_zps7a25fc5c.jpg~original

The one with the back to us is another one, I would one sell but only for a good price since I need the money, otherwise I would put it on eBay.

The next one is a Jeutel Galaktron (better pictures of all games will follow tomorrow when i make my second visit:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/WasisGalaktron_zpsbbf4b1cf.jpg~original

A final lap twin, looks very good in conditionn:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/FinalLapTwin_zpsd3bb69e5.jpg~original

GP Rider Twin motocycle-simulator, also looks very nice in shape:

Turbo Outrun cabaret:

Some Midways like MK´s, KI´s and Wrestlemanias:

one with a Tekken 2 PCB in it.

Cinematronic Super Off Road:

San Francisco Rush:

2x Taito´s Special Crime Investigation (dont have a picture)

Atari Assault (dont have a picture now)

Cyber Cicles Twin (CRT-Version):

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/1_zps2e35ed68.jpg~original

The Rock-Ola (if it is for sale):

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/AutomatimHIntergrund_zps7ed742b5.jpg~original

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/Rock-Olanaumlher_zps5b063253.jpg~original

Thats it for now.

I also will have the problem to decide between two Space Invaders Clones, the Super Invaders is the one that catches the eye with its beautyful artwork:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/DasistheftigSuperInvadersDeluxe_zps629ccc11.jpg~original

The alternative would be the Super Space Attack:

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/MysterioumlserAutomatnaumlher_zpse80294b4.jpg~original

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag58/synonym999/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/GremlinSuperSpaceAttack_zps20650742.jpg~original

The main-point for me is that the one I take got that semi translucent mirror with blacklight and backdrop. If both got it, maybe you guys can give me an advice which one is the one to go with.

Yeah, my favorite band still.....will see them live in November again, in a very small venue, love that :)

This is the Dribbling:
http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/synonym999/media/Roadrtip%20outside%20my%20country/GeheimnisvollerAutomat_zps13a9264c.jpg.html

Here is a picture of one:

Speleo_DE has one. I kinda scared myself I recognized it by so little information....well at least it looks like one ! :)

It's a video version of a table football game. Each player has two handles like on such a table.

It has a really cool bezel that looks like a stadium.

OK guys, I am just about to leave for the vendor, wish me good luck!

This time we will go in depth and report everything precisly.

BTW, you also can add a SEGA Hang-On to the list of machines for sale.

I also try to discribe all the electro-mechanicle games this time and will list them for sale. Again I cannot promise if they are for sale at the end of the day since my Nilfisk got the last word.
