ROM-Wizard new Version
« on: July 08, 2015, 11:18:20 AM »
Hi folks,

I'd like to announce my latest version of ROM-Wizard: V.1.20.

Download is available under http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/romwizard.htm

Language is still german only, but I'm currently working on an English version due to a lot of requests.

Some corrections / improvements have been done on the update:

New: ROM split function - 2 times 1/2, 4 times 1/4, High / Low Byte separation, Nibble Filler (converts XYh to 0Xh plus 0Yh for certain bipolar prom programmers)

Improved: ROM Merge - bug removed when starting merge a second time...

You'll find the merge and split utility among others under "Tools".

To load a binary file just right click on the eprom and choose "ROM laden"
To save a binary file just right click and choose "ROM speichern"

Have fun!
Wolfgang

The Google function is simple. It just sends a google search request with the SHA-checksum. Google knows all checksums from the MAME sources.

If Google finds results, the binary file is most likely O.K., if not, the file might be corrupt (or it is a new rom dump that needs to be added to MAME...).

Does it work with your browser?

I still think hooking it up to ROMident would be insanely more useful, but that's just crazy and stubborn me......  ;D

Well, we've had this discussions before and I did a little bit web research about that topic. In the end I extracted all of the ROM ident data from MAME, that could be a lookup table for valid checksums. The bad thing about this is, you'll get a 16 megabyte textfile to deal with.

I'd personally prefer a small tool (ROM Wizard is about 500kB) with internet query if you really need it.

Are there any othe opinions around here? I'd appreciate more input...

Greets,
Wolfgang

I looks like it did not work, google came up but it did not do a search query.

I've seen that problem before, could be an issue of your browser or browser settings. In most cases it works perfectly (Firefox, Chrome...).
What Browser are you using?

Could it be a problem with http vs. https?

Hi Wolfgang,

Well what is 16MB in today's word of Terabyte harddrives ? But still please let me understand....wouldn't it be possible to pass on the info RomWizard finds about a ROM you've loaded and then do a webquiry on http://romident.coinopflorida.com ?
This would make the off-line 16Mb file unnecessary (which would also be requiring updates I assume).

If you need help with the English (or Dutch ;)) version let me know. I think the program will get a lot more users when it's available in English.

And I have another request: Please make drag and drop possible.....it is SO 1994 to have to go through menu's to open files ..... :D I'd really love to be able to drag a ROM file onto one of those big ROM pictures and load it that way.
It is the more intuitive way and that's what the mouse/window system was designed for ;)

Another very cool add would be if RomWizard would calculate some ROM signatures like the Fluke 9010A signature. For me the 9100A would even be better, but it seems that there is only 1 person in the world who knows how the algorithm for that signature is and so far he doesn't seem to want to share it (I don't know who he is, I just read about this rumor....)
