i find stage 4 of r-type very tough already!! those things that leaves poo behind them as they fly across the screen!!  >:( ;D

The trick is to keep the forward lazers.   All other weapons don't clear off the olives(or poo) as well and blue reflective lazers just bound off them.

Thank you all for the welcome.    I love my R-Type and would hate anything bad to happen to it.    It was a very popular game back when it was new.  I remember waiting in line to play it.   I can usually get to stage 7 without too much trouble.  I haven't figured out all the safe spots in stage 7 and the exploding walls and over abundance of enemies coming from all directions really kicks my @!$%^.  The junk yard at the end isn't too hard once I get there with weapons.   Only made it to stage 8 a few times.  The couple of times I made it to stage 8 with full weapons.  I didn't even have to move around on the screen to beat it.

Hello from Nebraska USA, I love this site!  It’s very informative; I look forward to getting to know all of you and learning from your experience.     I met some of my best friends at the arcade and hope to make more!

I am an arcade fan and have repaired some cabs for the local arcades.  My dad a TV repairman by trade has refurbished many monitor tubs and chassis.   I am more drawn to space and RPG arcade games.  I never got good at the fighting ones, or maybe I was good but my friends were better.

As for Cabs:  I currently own one, an original working 1987 Nintendo R-Type.  Look here for more info http://www.klov.com.   I have it set to accept quarters.

Just recently I acquired the guts not working at the time for Gauntlet Legends, no monitor, did include a cobbled together 4 player control panel.   I have repaired it and installed it into an old beat up Tekken 4 cab with a 25” monitor.  The monitor is on its last legs and has some burn in.  Cost to me so far to get it this far and working is $7.

My goal as funds allow is to build a replica of the 27” Gauntlet Legends cab.      As I have only seen the cab in pictures, I will need all the help I can get to make it.
