Title: Unknown Invaders! Help!
Post by: Q*ris on October 26, 2010, 01:46:58 AM
This weekend KID, also a member here, found an Invaders nest (and some more) and he invited me to come along.
Mostly Italian bootlegs I think, and not really worth any money but I think they look damn cool/kitsch. Yum!
And always keep in mind that we are talking about preserving the video game history for our children here  ;)

We rescued some of them already but I'm really hesitating now...
Should we go back and rescue some more, even though we don't really have enough room to store more junk??
That would sure save them from the dumpster or worse.
They are all supposedly in working condition but I highly doubt that.

Help us make our mind...  (or please share it with us if you have some more infos on those cabs)

UFO INVADERS:
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/ufo_invadersC_1.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/ufo_invadersC_2.jpg)
If you've already seen the robots or ships somewhere else that's pure coincidence.

SUPER INVADERS:
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/superinvadersG_1.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/superinvadersG_2.jpg)
AKA electrical ewok hungry for 3 millenium falcons cookies

yet another SUPER INVADERS:
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/goldo_1.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/goldo_2.jpg)
illustrating how Grendizer robots had trouble walking on the moon back then

UFO INVADERS (again):
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/ufo_invadersG_1.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/ufo_invadersG_2.jpg)
OK the side art has seen better days but it has a midway coin door

SUPER INVADERS (don't watch if clowns scare you):
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/clown_2.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/clown_1.jpg)
Midway coin door too + a spooky sideart with big pants (= a midway clowns cab from 1978).

GALAXIE 2:
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/galaxie2_2.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/galaxie2_3.jpg)
with some kind of "end of the world" vision that requires US army VS dinosaurs... we took that cab with us already.

TV PING PONG:
Now that's a real piece of history... from 1973! It's on KLOV (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10003) and KID even found the original flyer online.
Of course we took this cab too on our first visit.

PULL DOWN:
(https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/pulldown_1.jpg)  (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/~chrischris/arcade/unknown_invaders/pulldown_2.jpg)
Aiming somewhere between Computer Space and Shiva.

MONTE CARLO:

Shake that rusty gearstick, Schumi!

Wow very cool !

I've never seen that first Super Invaders before, gotta love the bootleg SW artwork !!!! Looks to be in good condition too for it's age !

The second UFO invaders is a converted Winner (Midway's Pong): (http://arcadeflyers.com/flyers_video/midway/29174401.jpg)
Very interetsting, the one on the flyer has an all "woody" look but yours has side-art in the same style as the bezel art....
(I _love_ that flyer by the way, it's SO 1970's !)

Never seen that Galaxie 2 or Pull Down cabs, great !!!! I love obscure Euro cabs !!! I put up a link to this on my Euro-cabs thread on BYOAC forum...http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=76571.0

Wish I could house some of those cabs.... :'(

The Pull Down, is that a plastic cabinet ? (Like Computer Space)

At the _VERY_ least the B/W monitors and PCB's should be saved....

It was a nice trip, thanks chrischris  ;)

Machines are not in Italy but in Belgium.
I found one another flyer :

@ level42: thanks for the link, I love euro cabs too, they're my guilty pleasure  :)
Nicolas le jardinier has also found another winner cab with the same side-art (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2038.msg23542#msg23542)
I can't remember if the pull down cab was made of plastic. (KID, do you remember?)

@ Muerto and Reinhold: we are currently trying to find some space so we can save these cabs, I'll keep you guys updated on that.
Anyway the owner is not giving them at the moment, he's selling them, but my guess is that everything will go to the dumpster or to a local second hand shop if we wait for too long.

That super invaders with the x-wing on the bezel is probably supposed to have the bezel that's on the clowns cab, same typeface.

These cabinets really deserve to be saved!

I agree, I have a weak spots for the boots too.

Weird eh, some bootleg records are worth a lot, but bootleg cabs always seem to get very little money. In fact prices should be higher because they are much more rare !

Whatever happened to these ??
Title: Re: Unknown Invaders! Help!
Post by: Q*ris on April 14, 2011, 12:20:52 PM
I know it's been ages but I'm still working on rescuing these cabs.
Calling the guy from times to times via my friend "KID".
Owner lives super far away and we still haven't agreed on the final price (he wants something like a 100€/each).
If that ever happens, would somebody here be interested in buying back some of them from me?
I don't really need them but it would break my heart to hear that they have been destroyed.
Mind you: the one we already brought back were completely non functionnal so whoever will buy them must be prepared for some resto action.
We weren't allowed to open them so I don't even know if there are PCBs in there.  ???

Sorry man, all out of space but I feel just the same, these should not be destroyed.

Isn't there some European subsidy we can get ? Maybe we should start the "Dark, weird and rare Euro arcade cabs liberation front" and "set them free" ;)

Too bad.
Anyway I should work on trying to get them to my storage and then check back here to see if there's any interest but that's a huge job.
