Title: FOUND AND BOUGHT: Monaco GP cocktail
Post by: level42 on July 16, 2015, 11:40:43 PM
We were at Vernimark's Great arcade/BBQ party last saturday and he has a Nice collection of pretty special machines like The Bertolino Atari's and Italian Defender......but I totally fel in love with this one:

Monaco GP cocktail !
(yes I love the lad playing the game too, but that's because he's my son :))

I know they are mega-rare but...........if anyone has a working one for sale.......let me know :)

(And I already claimed first dibs on Marco's in the impossible case that he would ever decide to sell it :D:D )

Why this one ?

First of all, my collection STILL requires a racing game Of the right era and the right size and the right fun !
Further....this machines plays so awesome.....the wheel feels very natural despite its size. The small gas pedal just adds to the realistic feeling.....it's really like a tiny cockpit !
I also love the wooden shifter, the LED displays for the scores etc. and the game is just a load of fun.....it is totally amazing what they succeeded to create without any processor on board !

There is "night driving", ice driving, small bridges etc. etc. It's fun and challenging !!!

Oh, yes, there are ;). In fact, at least two of these have popped up for sale on the AZ forum over the years. I can dig up the PMs with photos if that's of interest ...

Here's the corresponding threads:

http://www.arcadezentrum.com/forum/showthread.php?24313-Monaco-GP-cocktail-in-Darmstadt-f%FCrn-Appel-undn-Ei&highlight=monaco+gp+cocktail (that one went for 40(!!) euros this year!)
http://www.arcadezentrum.com/forum/showthread.php?2314-Wusste-gar-nicht&highlight=monaco+gp+cocktail

But anyway, i have to agree with you: Monaco GP is a GREAT game. I've owned the Pro version for a few years now, and only recently got my hands on the cabaret, after hunting for a good one for quite some time.

The possibility to have an unique item was nice but actually I'm happy there are some other cocktails around the world, it is very nice and I'm glad other people can enjoy with it

Hi André,
I got a MGP Cocktail in my storage. It's in a miserable state, Luigi has taken some Pics today....

The wooden knob of the shifter is missing, the pedal and the lower part of the Cab (e.g. the legs) are severely rusted. Monitor cover (sheet of plexiglas) got scratches.

PCB should be inside, have to check this. Bought it for restauration but lack of time and skill convinced me to let it go.

If you still interested after seeing the pics, PM me.....

very interesting Dirk....The things you mention don't scare me off......a non-working PCB probably will ;);)

Still interested though, let's see when I see the pics :)

It shouldn't, as the PCB will break anyway sooner or later...  :D

Actually, it's three PCBs (1 x logic, 1 x video, 1 x sound), and they're all huge and "strictly TTL" - no CPU on there. So debugging them is a nightmare, I've been through this ;). On the other hand, I do now have a ton of spares for this game, so I'm happy to help if you dare take the risk :D

Yeah I know about the boardset without processor and it only makes me respect the game even more because what they did without processor is close to unbelievable.....but indeed it also scares me ;)

Fantastic to know and that surely would help making the decision, thanks !

Thanks for the encouraging words my friend.....LOL !

This cocktail got so much character.
Its a must for every collection actually. Something you never forget once you saw it.
The game is great of course and a piece of history.

If I would´nt love huge cabinets I would be after that version for sure!

So I understand the player's car is missing....do I dare to ask......did you start a game ?

Not sure if the LED's indicate that a game is running....

Yes, we started a game. The screenshot was actually taken while I was 'playing'. I could use the gear shifter and the throttle, both worked. You can't see or steer the car. There are parts f the track in the dark. You see the light cone but you cannot control it, it doesn't move while turning the wheel. Of course, this could also mean, that the wheel is not working properly.

:)

Okiedokie......

Mmmm, found this tiny bit of info on Wikipedia:
"Images such as the cars and "game over" message are stored in small custom ROM chips."

Mmmm....maybe .....it's just one of those PROMs ?

Anyway, this is already much better than expected :):)
