Hi,
It's time for me to start my first WIP on the forum!!! Not a cabinet WIP…. It's time to start another gaming room WIP!!!!
I already have a gaming room but after more than 15 years of collecting old video games I need more space ::)
Current situation:
My games are located in 4 places:
- House (Cabinets, consoles, computers, videogames...)
- Gaming room (in fact now warehouse) in the garden (Cabinets)
- Warehouse (Cabinets)
- Container #2 & #3 and why not #xxxx :)

:o :o :o
Yeah, this really Atari mania, awesome! ;D
-
not bad... 8)
-
Nice collection! I think you need some more boxed games though....
;D
-
Love yourcollection..... This project must be big if you want to fit your collection.
Keep posting....
-
A very nice collection :-*.
-
I remember those Centipede and Pac Man posters but not the Caverns of Mars one, looks very cool !
Got a better pic of that one ?
-
You know ATARI. Well done.
Question 1: Why do you stack game boxes? From my experience the lower ones will be dented through the years (or do you put all inserts into other boxes?) Better to have these up to their edges side by side towards each other. Needs more space but would be safer - see my collection (part of - and the better computer AMIGA *g*)
Question 2: Can you tell me which green "Game Story" book can be seen?
-

Question 2: Can you tell me which green "Game Story" book can be seen?
Answer 1: I plan to display the games side by side on the new gaming room but:
- This take much more place (I have almost 4000 boxed games)
- For VCS the size of the boxes are the same so it's "easy" to make shelves but for A8 or ST it's different
(By the way the Amiga is a great computer too but ST is better !!! Atari rulez!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) ;) ;)
Answer 2: This is the book of an exhibition that took place in Paris last year at the "Grand Palais".
-
Holy sh]t....I'm speechless :o
-
(By the way the Amiga is a great computer too but ST is better !!! Atari rulez!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) ;) ;)
you sound so much like we did back in our Atari Demo days. ;)

Here is the plan:
On the garden level: one big room for Arcade.
On the middle: Terrace (WAF compatibility :) :) :)), home cinema (Children compatibility), cocktail games + VCS games wall
On the top: new bedroom (for visitors), bathroom and shelves for computers games + consoles, computer (attic)
-
(By the way the Amiga is a great computer too but ST is better !!! Atari rulez!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) ;) ;)

It's funny I used to defend the ST all the time because....it was Atari.....but only about a couple of years ago I discovered that (more or less) the Amiga was done by the A8 designers and the ST by the C64 designers....
So I guess I should have gone Amiga, because my true and only home Atari stuff love is the Atari 8 bits line, which is the best homecomputer ever of course ;D
However, the ST had the monochrome mode which made it also a USEFUL computer, compared to only a graphics/games machine like the Amiga......
Including the Midi port into the ST's hardware was a master move. It cost only a couple of cents in parts, but it sold thousands of STs to the music scene....
It was also the easier system to program from what I've read....but what do I know ;)
Today we live happily together, @RGE the C64 and Atari 800XL were right next to each other...........
(of course the XL ran the better games...... ;D ;D ;D ;D)
-
Nice plan, expanding your house at least 100% :)
-
I somehow haven't seen this thread yet. Man! :o That's impressive! As a small scale Atari collector myself
this definitely is inspiring to see!
-
Those are some very nice Atari Store Displays... most of which I've never seen! Love IT!!! ;D
-
Wow! What a collection! :spaceace: :spaceace:
Looking forward to following the process. All these games deserve a little more space. :)
-
Wow, awesome collection and great future plans!

Give me the TX-1 1!! ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH :spaceace:

A cab with 3 screens, 3 PCB... So much issues possibilities... You don't need that ;)

I love Atari related posters (I have about 40-50) and dealer displays. I hope to be able to display all of them on the new gaming room.

Hello,
Yesterday we moved all the cabs from the garden gaming room (no, storage) to another storage before destroying it for the new project.
Zamoth (and his lovely 9 month old girl) and a friend came to help us. Very hard day... We moved about 40 cabs! 4 23m3 vans full of cabs.
Some pictures:
First cab... Juno First!!!!

I agree :)
In the future gaming room I plan to put the games in 3 groups:
- B&W games
- 80's games (most of my collection)
- 90's games (Gauntlet Legend...)

Some news..
Yesterday was the Day 1!!!!
First step: Destroy the current gaming room
(http://www.atarimania.com/franck/gaming-room/atarimania_gaming_room_23.JPG)
Normally tomorrow.. no more gaming room ::)
-
Heheh, I loved that step, because I demolished mine with the little digging machine I had rented, almost a video game....."I'm gonna wreck it !" :):)
-
Lot's off rain here and winter coming up.... Won't that affect your plans?
-
You're right, season is an important criteria....
The building company told me that it should take 4 to 6 months depending weather condition....
Day 2:

Some updates:
It's time now to make the concrete paving stone of the first floor...
For bringing concrete they used a big "concrete pump":

Big truck :o

Any plans for the inside to reveal yet?
Not yet, I'm waiting for the final inside width to make plans, I would like to make two rows of cabs back to back with 3 paths (on each side + center) but I'm not sure that it will be possible, in this case it will be 2 rows on each side + 1 row back to back on the center...
Answer in 2-3 months ;)
-
:) keep us posted.

Fantastic build Frank
Being a builder my self I always find these threads interesting especially when there from another country .
I like to see how things are done differently.
You've matched into existing very well.
As for your Atari collection wow it's amazing
A lot of history there going back.
Thanks for sharing
-
Marco -> I think that I could find some space for Quantum, it's not a big cab ;)
Chuckie egg -> Yes it"s true that building methods seem to be very different depending the country :)
Today.... Painting on the top level ::)
-
Congrats on the new baby! :D
Cheers,
Marco

-
Let's continue!!
Now it's time to move computers/consoles games from the "old house" to the new one as I have to prepare it for the arcades games :)
But there is a problem, I can't make the shelves for the games for the moment on the level 2, we have to finish the terrace first as we stored the wood on the level 2.
Let's start to build the terrace...
Long task :(
... and to move the games on the top level:

Wait.....do you want to say that the arcade level continues at the dark side where some cabs can be seen? :o

For Arcade games I make an exception :)
Next steps:
- Unpack the games and put a cover on all of them :)
- Paint the new room (not very easy with the cabs)
- Move the cabs from the old rooms to the new one to finish it (wall, stone floor, etc.)
-
good luck on the paint job!
so, what are you three favourite cabs from your huge collection of games??
Cheers,
MArco
-
By the way, why did you bring cabinets before finishing the paint, ceiling, ... ?
-
By the way, why did you bring cabinets before finishing the paint, ceiling, ... ?
same in my basement. this is going to be a problem. :) can't wait to finish my poject though. :)
-
By the way, why did you bring cabinets before finishing the paint, ceiling, ... ?
Because I had to leave the storage. Sanding is finished, it's the harder part of the job ;)
-

Only three, I can't :) :) (ok maybe asteroids, sw and tempest, I love vector games :) )
-
You love Atari and you love vector games. You my friend. ;)
-
Asteroids! Yes! Come in my arms for a hug, buddy!
I always come back to this game: it's pure, it's timeless, it's 100% arcade!
-
Some updates.
Vacations are finished so the building company called me to start the floor on the "old" part so I have to transfer the cabs from this part to the new one (already full of cabs).... Another Tetris morning party with the help of Coinop Legacy team :)
No enough space to move all the cab but we manage to move half of them, they are going to lay the stone floor on this part then I'll move to cabs on the other side to finish :)
Pictures from the ending part of the gaming room on the "old" part:
-
More pictures:
-
Impressive :)
So all these rooms will make the gameroom once everything is finished?
-
Yes :)
The same room with a step between the two parts.
-
Two months without any update!!!
Damned, maybe you're going to think that I dropped!!
NO ! I spent most of my week-end free-time in sanding, cleaning, sanding......painting....
I started to organize a part of the gaming room (Atari goodies): :)
I still have a warehouse for the cabs, but a painted / cleaned warehouse ;D:
My objective is to end the painting for 30th november ::)
-
Looks ace!!!
-
I see a hell of a lot of "WANT"!
-
I envie your space :o
This is going to one hell of a gameroom!
-
that is just fantastic what a massive collection and now a building to display and play it all 8) 8) 8)
-
Some updates:
Painting.... Done!!
Next step: lights on the new section, very important as a big (the most? ;) ) part of the hobby is working on the cabs and it needs light!!! -> 2 rows of lights.
-
Now!!! Big sokoban game!!!!!
First attempts... As the new section isn't very high I'm going to put on it the "small" cabs...
It's not easy as I don't have too much free space to move the cabs...
More pictures coming soon :)
-
More pictures coming soon :)
Yes please!
Looks like you have a great collection and the space to set them out to play.
Very cool.
-
With the help of Zamoth I finally arranged all the cabs!!
I wasn't easy, there were many constraints:
- all the cabs must fit in the room (including the C6 and C7 coming cabs ;) )
- because of the high of the room we had to put the tallest cabs near the peripheral walls
- it's must possible to remove any cab (to restore or fix it) without moving all the other cabs
- same cabs must me side to side (vectors, same brand...)
Let's start the visit :)
Access from the main house:
