Title: Need help with a Gyruss PCB
Post by: Ron on October 31, 2011, 09:12:15 PM
Is there somebody on this board who can help me with a bad functional Gyruss PCB?
Everything is working except the sound  :?
I'm a really noob when it comes to electronics
Hope somebody can help me out with this or knows somebody who can.

Thanks in advance

Ron

Wow, that's a shiny looking board! I have the original Gyruss board schematics if that's of help to anyone (My Gyruss has an intermittent left speaker fault - I have checked all the speaker connections and think it may be one of the two sound chips causing the problem).

OK, it's a bootleg and it looks like the volume pots and audio caps are in place, though the amps look as if they might have been replaced at some stage.

Do you have any sound at all from the speakers - noise/hiss, with the volume turned up full, that might suggest that at least the audio amps and output is working?

Paul.

Thanks Paul,

I think youre right about the amps.
If i turn on the pots to full there is no sound at all.
According to the former owner there was a power shortcut in his cab which caused the damage?
It's a nice looking board but without sound it's useless unfortunately :?
I was hoping it's something minor but i'm afraid it isn't.
I wish i had the technical knowledge

Do the amps get hot?

Hi Paul,

Only the left amp is getting hot.
Is this a good thing?

They would usually be the same - hot as in burning hot?

I'd suggest that you download the manual/schematics and then if you have a multimeter you can check the amp's power and connectivity. I can't remember if this PCB has a strapping option for stereo to mono for normal cabs, or if the bootleg has this arranged differently from the original PCB.

Paul.

Yes, hot like in - burning.

I already had the schematics and the amps are getting power (my father has looked at it with a multimeter a while ago).
Well, i appreciate your help but i think i can't do any more.
I have no technical background to dig further in the schematics.
Maybe i have to look for a replacement of the soundboard.

Beware of the edge connector pins, looks like in very bad condition. ::)
